This last week or two has been a whirlwind of events happening to our little family. This is our third week of kindergarten for our son, and its been a really interesting transition to say the least. We also had a few house things happen, that made us so frazzled and frustrated with our whole house. And we are still working on fixing the house, but things take time.
I guess that when bad things happen, it gives you great chance to realize the good things you have in life. I have been realizing all the blessings that we still have, around all the chaos that we have been going through. I think I realized this while hearing my husband explaining to my son about the kitchen ceiling disaster, he told him that,
“ Things happen but no one got hurt and we are all still together, and that’s what counts.”
There has never been more truer words said about our family. Ever since we have met, 8 years ago, my husband and I have been through everything together, and now having a house fall apart around us seems like a very minimal problem. As long as we are all happy and healthy and together, all is well.
I am grateful to have my family, it may be small, but my husband, and son keep me grounded and help me to be a better person. I am grateful for them every single day. And now that my son is going to school, things are changing even more for us. Our routines are different now. And now my son is learning infinite things at school, between social experiences and actual kindergarten curriculum, its changing everything. I know change is hard most of the time, but I am grateful for this change.
I am grateful also for this week because I still have plenty of meat in the freezer. I normally run out of meat around the first of the month, and right now, I have plenty for the next 10 days. I call this normally the “last week” of food before we get our food stamps on the tenth of each month, so it feels good to be eating well this week.
You know it really helps to stop and make a thankful list, I have actually been doing this for a really long while in my creative writing. I know how much it helps your mood, as I always try to do a thankful list, whenever I am not feeling well. Instead of complaining about what is bad in your life, try making a grateful-thankful-blessings list and you will feel a whole lot better about your life.
Here’s a basic example of some things that any person reading this could most likely be grateful for, this may not apply to every one but I think you will get the idea.
- I am thankful for getting up this morning.
- I am grateful that I can go where I please.
- I am grateful that I can say what I want.
- I am grateful for the people around me.
- I am thankful for having a roof over my head, (if you do.)
- I am thankful for being able to read. (you are reading this right?)
- I am thankful that I can navigate the internet. ( again, you got here.)
You may think that some of those things may be silly, but they are things to be grateful for. I am always thankful for hot water coming out of the hot side of the sink, for my toilet flushing-as well as having one to use, I am grateful for having a shower and a oven, and a fridge and a freezer, because I have lived without all those things. I know the small necessities that it takes to live, that most people take for granted each day. I am very grateful for having the simple life that I have to enjoy. And I hope you can find it in you to make a thankful list often also.
